Sommelier Smackdown 2010 Winner!
November 18, 2010 in About Us, Events, What We're Drinking
Congratulations to Erin (owner of Vintages) for winning the “Sommelier Smackdown” competition offered to all wine professionals in Colorado by a Colorado distributor. She most correctly identified 10 wines in a blind tasting: including origin, vintage, grape varietal, region, sub-region & vineyard. (It sure surprised some fellows from a certain restaurant in Boulder)

The most memorable wine was 2009 Domaine Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray! This beautiful wine is sec (dry) Vouvray (Chenin Blanc from the Vouvray region in Loire Valley, France) from Clos du Bourg vineyard. The thin soil in this vineyard is atop non-reactive limestone making for flavorful and well-structured wine. Rich & fresh lime & grapefruit, white pepper, oily yet juicy & bright. Very versatile with food (much like a dry Riesling) The wine is drinkable now or cellar up to 10 years.~ 91pts Wine Advocate $31.99/btl
